Museum of the sea

It located in the historical building of the Nautical Institute "Francesco Caracciolo" Procida, the "Museum of the Sea" was founded in 1996 to enhance and promote rooted maritime traditions of the island. Initially created for educational purposes, for students of the Institute, is today a precious museum of memory that preserves the essence of that love, devotion and passion for the sea, for which for centuries the people of Procida, a people of captains , sailors and fishermen.

The sea to an island is a fundamental element, and even more so for a small island like Procida, so close to the mainland and at the same time as well as linked to the element marine rather than to the "metropolis" of Naples. So it happened that always the procidani have found their work at sea rather than in the city, which are driven more willingly towards That strange but lucrative "blue resource" rather than towards the populous Parthenope, and it is precisely the special bond that there is always between Procida and the sea that was born this precious museum.

The Maritime Museum has two sections: a literature with adjoining historical archive documenting the history of the maritime tradition of the island and a second dedicated to votive and religious tradition of seafaring activity Procida and a few proverbs and folk songs concerning the sea.
